Remember the SAINTS
we have lost
Every trip we make around the sun, and especially as we grow older, we lose the saints who mark our lives. Friends, family, work colleagues, neighbors, andย fellow members of our communities of faith. This virtual service will be a moment to name them and honor their memory with prayers of thanksgiving.
Ministers, chaplains, professors: we especially created this service with you in mind. You may be responsible for leading services on the weekends, or chapel services during the week, teaching many classes, or planning events. So this is a moment on All Saints’ Day for you to come and attend to your own grief. Our first priority in worship is to give our full attention to the sacred, to step fully into holy presence. We hope this space will allow you to do just that.
All are welcome in the service and anyone may sign up to join us and honor the saints of our lives and other vocational losses and griefs.
We will acknowledge and honor VOCATIONAL GRIEF
Even in the very best of circumstances for ministry, theological education, or any of the hundreds of callings people live, loss is part of the equation. Recognizing vocational loss and grief when you see it, or experience it, is a good start. Acknowledging and then honoring the loss with all its myriad of feelings, may keep it from operating unnamed in the shadows of our vocations, relationships, and work. Unacknowledged, grief can drain away life and vitality. But in the light of Christ, seen and heard, our losses and sorrow may with time become one more of many dimensions of a complex calling.
