Advent XVILeaning In

Last spring I read Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In. It impressed and inspired me to implement several new ideas. However, my first priority is to “lean in” to my book and complete it before starting anything new.

Tonight I’m feeling tired and just a little discouraged. I’ve worked hard in last 2 and 1/2 weeks, and the book still needs work. It’s difficult to appreciate my progress when the job remains unfinished. Sandberg makes the point that society judges women on accomplishments and judges men on their promise to achieve. That dynamic can be internalized by women as diminished self-worth or potential. I’m working against that dynamic. How about you?

To inspire myself for tomorrow’s work, here’s something I’m planning when the manuscript is complete: a series of blogs on women in religious leadership. Four interviews are in the bag, and I want to tell you those stories. How’s that for promise? Naming it, helps me feel better. Imagining communion from the hands of other strong women who have leaned in, also bolster’s my soul.
